Our New Years' letter 2011!
Our years are often remembered by the events that occur during them, and the people we meet shape our lives.
No moss grows on our feet, our car is always warmed up and packed with our bags. Our first stop was Moses Lake to celebrate a late Christmas, and watch the Rose Bowl where the Oregon Ducks fought the Ohio State Buckeyes; our family hijacked the motel lobby for our own private showing!
April was a busy month for us at home and on the road. Kathy pulled off a surprise birthday party where the guests wrote “stories” about growing up with Mike… only a few were actually true, but all were very adventurous. She also began her job with the Oregon Ministry Network in the financial department. Shortly after accepting the position, we hit the road once again as little miss Avery Ann Marie Peters was welcomed into our family. She is a highlight to add to our other rays of sunshine, Adaiah Michelle and Elisha Michael. We had them all over for Thanksgiving, and our house was once again filled with laughter. Of course, having their dads and moms here certainly helped to lighten the air.
One of our favorite places to meet friends is at the Manhattan Café in Portland. They’ve hosted our reunions with friends from Portland, Eugene, Arizona, California, Spokane, and Colorado Springs. It’s a warm place for a good cup of coffee, good conversation, and sometimes, live music.
Anniversaries are always special, and in June we celebrated our 25th. Our kids setup a fake celebration for Avery, but was a ruse to cover their planned anniversary hijinks. Their visit included a great celebration and gathering of friends and family, a trip to the Oregon cost and a crabbing adventure.
Weddings are also a great time to celebrate love and life. This year held its share of such celebrations as seven young couples exchanged vows and allowed us to celebrate in their special day. Jon and Melissa wed late in December, Robert and Nicole in March, Mike and Candy in June, Mike and Michelle in September, Chris and Angel in October, and Rocky and Brenda in November … what a wonderful expression God’s great message of love.
Throughout the year, we’ve had the privilege of meeting new friends. Some were the friends of friends of friends. From Oklahoma City to Fort Wayne, Long Beach to Onamia, MN. each time we met someone new, it seemed we had known them for years
Have you ever wanted to be on the news? We almost made it, and thankfully, we missed it. We celebrated the 50th anniversary of Kathy’s parents with a cruise to the Mexican Riviera. 3 weeks later, our ship made the news for a fire on board… they lost power and had to be towed back to San Diego. Our cruise was lively and upbeat, a very memorable occasion, and for all the right reasons.
2010 held its surprises and joys. May 2011 bring many blessings to you and your household. Merry Christmas! May the Lord richly bless you all!
